Tutorial Video – Drafting – Part 3

This is the third of the Tutorial videos demonstrating good practices whilst drafting. Drafting on the bike is a considerable energy saver and can reduce your effort levels by up to one third. This is obviously very useful for the purposes of racing and training, if you are competing in draft legal races then drafting is an essential skill set to be practiced in training.

However even if you are an age group competitor that does not race in draft legal events then it still is helpful. The use of drafting means that large groups with varied strengths can ride together and also means when it is your easy day, then you have an opportunity to sit back in the group and relax whilst those more ambitious riders work hard at the front.

The practices in video 3 are slightly more advance than those in video 1 and 2, techniques that are useful to prepare for draft legal racing, however riders should only practice techniques that they are comfortable with. Everyone must always be aware of the riders around them be alert and ride safely within their own ability, allowing themselves to build confidence and experience gradually.
